Background

The KODAK PRINTOMATIC+ is the next generation of the original PRINTOMATIC instant print camera, bringing a refreshed design and upgraded features to one of KODAK’s most accessible point-and-shoot instant cameras.

While the original PRINTOMATIC was built around a simple idea—point, shoot, and automatically print, the new PRINTOMATIC+ builds on that experience with a 10MP camera, an interactive LED status indicator, and a refreshed lineup of colors, while continuing to produce 2 × 3 inch sticky-backed photos using ZINK zero ink technology.

With the product update came an opportunity to rethink the packaging as well. The new system needed to clearly distinguish PRINTOMATIC+ from the previous generation, communicate its upgraded features, and create a stronger, more consistent shelf presence across the full color lineup.

Design Approach

The packaging builds on KODAK’s iconic yellow and black color palette, using large-scale product photography to make each camera color immediately recognizable on shelf. Lifestyle images introduce the instant-print experience, while a clear hierarchy separates product features, specifications, and supporting information.

I developed the packaging from dieline through final production, including paper selection and laminate finish. I also worked closely with the photography team to select and art direct the product and lifestyle imagery used across the packaging.

Custom icons were created to simplify key features and make technical information easier to scan. For the back and side panels, I reorganized the multilingual content into a clearer information system, improving readability while keeping the overall layout clean and consistent across the product line.

The Challenge

The main challenge was fitting a large amount of product information, features, photography, and multiple languages onto a relatively compact package without making it feel crowded.

The solution was a more structured visual hierarchy: strong product imagery leads the design, key features are reduced to simple icons and short callouts, and multilingual information is grouped and organized consistently. This allows customers to understand the product quickly while still meeting the packaging’s retail and technical requirements.
